Simple joys...

As previously mentioned, J and I went to a memorial service/ celebration of life for a friend's husband. The service was beautiful and heartfelt but the celebration of life was absolutely incredible - not mention it was located in one of the most beautiful places in California- Mailbu.

View from Duke's Malibu - Not a bad place for a restroom stop!

From what I knew of Kyle, the event was something he would have been so proud of. Like J and I, Kyle and Laurie were huge fans of Hawaii (who isn't?) and walking into the celebration of life was as close to being in Hawaii as one could get - - including fresh flower & shell leis for everyone! The attention to detail at the event was amazing - there was everything from the drinks Laurie and Kyle drank on their honeymoon to little notepads scattered around where one could leave a special memory for Kyle that would be put together in a book of memories. One thing that had a huge impact on me were these little pinwheels that you could take home with you. The story said they were one of Kyle's favorite childhood toys and were a symbol about how precious and simple life can be. Mine now resides in my office - a constant reminder to not stress the small stuff and to enjoy the life you have. It's the only one you have, spend it well and enjoy the simple things.

Rest in peace, Kyle.

time to start blogging...

It was a goal of mine to start up this blog in 2012, and although we are already 4 months in, I figured later is better than never!

I have always found that writing is a great release when there are no restrictions, so readers beware - this blog will cover EVERYTHING! So feel free to skip some posts if the topics bore you or if you find them completely annoying. I promise to tag them as best as possible so you can filter through them.

This year has already brought on some super exciting and super scary experiences but I like to take the bad with good and use everything as a learning experience!

We're off to a friend's memorial service tomorrow. It's unimaginable how my dear friend Laurie must feel losing her husband and best friend. The best thing I can do is be there for her and remind her of one my favorite quotes:

Hopefully I can keep it in mind when I start to bawl my eyes out tomorrow. Must remember waterproof mascara...

That's all for today.
